Statistics - Basics, General

The purpose of this class is to provide a lecture on helpful guidelines to assist in the development of efficient statistical analysis.

Duration: 1 hour

Software Program Used: R

The BERD KCA provides education and training on biostatistics, epidemiology, and research design related to clinical and translational research.

Duration: 8 hours

This lecture series will provide a practical introduction to computers, critical concepts in computing, and their application to informatics problems in the health sciences arena. My goal is for you to walk away from these sessions with a much deeper understanding of the internal workings of computers armed with an array of practical knowledge that you can apply to your everyday interactions with computer systems. I also intend for this material to lay the foundations necessary for entry into more detailed study on specialized computational topics such as DNA sequence analysis, genomics, and bioinformatics.

Duration: 8 hours

This online handbook includes relevant overviews of common statistical analyses. Applied examples are given and interesting discussions of various topics relevant to applied data analysis are provided.

Seminars, short courses, and workshops related to the application of biostatistical and epidemiological methods to study design and data analysis.
Clinical or translational working groups or journal clubs.
Curricular materials for asynchronous learning, including printed and video-streamed seminars, short courses, and tutorials.
Duration: 24+ hours
Workshop 1: Formulating a sound research question and study hypotheses: hypothesis testing. Workshop 2: Study designs and data collection strategies: scientific and logistical considerations in selecting the design to address your research questions. Workshop 3: Sample size and study power: Why do I need so many subjects? What will my biostatistician need to know and how can I get that information? Workshop 4: Statistical analysis: What statistical methods are appropriate for my study design and data collected?

A compilation of training materials on biostatistics, ranging from introductory to specific statistical software.

The purpose of this class is to provide instruction on exploring and practicing the use of time in statistical analysis for Common experimental designs that use time, types of time-based analyses, examples of time-based analyses, dealing with time as a variable, R practices, SAS practices, and Caveats & Concerns.

Duration: 0.75 hours

Software Programs Used: R, SAS

The purpose of this class is to explore current techniques of statistical methods and techniques and potentially future problems to overcome in the application of such tools.

Duration: 1 hour

In this brief class, participants will get a crash course overview on the essential software applications used for Statistical Analysis: Stata, SPSS, Excel, SAS, and R.

Duration: 1.5 hours

Software Programs Used: R, SAS, SPSS, Excel, and STATA software
