ACCEL offers various grant mechanisms to aid investigators in developing stronger and more competitive grant submissions for external funding opportunities.
ACCEL Funding Opportunities
Mentored Research Development Awards (MRDA) provide salary support for junior investigators needing protected time (release time from non-research responsibilities) to focus on grant writing.
A Letter of Intent (LOI) is due prior to full application.
There are multiple submission cycles per year.
Award: Up to 40% effort or $10,000
Duration: Up to 6 months
Clinical & Translational (C&T) Pilot Grants provide funding to conduct a 1- or 2-year study in translational research. Junior or senior researchers may apply; junior investigators must identify a mentor. ACCEL offers two types of C&T Pilots: Regular and Community-Engaged.
Preliminary applications (PA) are required prior to the full application, typically due in March.
Full applications are due in June.
There is 1 submission cycle per year.
Regular C&T Pilot
Award: $80,000/year
Duration: 1 year
Community-Engaged Pilot
Award: $40,000/year
Duration: 2 years
The Shovel-Ready (ShoRe) Grant Program is for investigators with submitted, but unfunded, projects who need funds to collect further preliminary data, run new analyses, etc., in support of a resubmission.
There are 2 submission cycles per year.
Due dates are typically January and July.
Award: $20,000
Duration: 6 months
Interdisciplinary New Collaboration (INC) Awards support new collaborations that are interdisciplinary and span the translational spectrum. Application should have multiple principal investigators (MPI).
There are 1-2 submission cycles per year.
Due dates are typically January and July.
Award: $50,000/year
Duration: 2 years
Overcoming Barriers to Translational Success (OrBiTS) Awards fund specific equipment, infrastructure, or specialized services that will benefit multiple researchers across institutions.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Award: Variable
Duration: Variable
Research Retreats support formal or informal meetings or workshops promoting development of new collaborations or new research proposals.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Award: Up to $10,000
Duration: Single-day meeting
ACCEL partners with various state, public and private organizations for the purposes of enhancing community engagement in research and improving the health of Delawareans.
Program applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
